Manhattan, NY – On October 25, 2023, Judge Arthur Engoran fined Donald Trump $10,000 for violating a gag order. This follows a $5,000 fine imposed by Judge Engoran last week. Trump and his companies are currently on trial before Judge Engoran in a civil fraud cause brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James.

On Wednesday, October 25, 2023, Judge Engoran ordered Trump to take the witness stand to explain statements Trump made to the press earlier, in which he ctiticized an unnamed “person who’s very partisan sitting alongside” the judge. Trump testified that he was referring to former attorney Michael Cohen, who testified as a State witness against him in the fraud trial. Judge Engoran interpreted Trump’s statement to mean his court clerk instead, and imposed the fine.

The gag order was filed earlier in October, 2023 after Trump posted comments on Truth Social that criticized Engoran’s law clerk. In response, the judge imposed a gag order prohibiting any comments critical of court staff.

The case is People of the State of New York v. Donald J. Trump, et. al, Index # 452564/2022
