Donald Trump’s legal team has filed a motion to disqualify Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and Special Prosecutor Nathan Wade from prosecuting Trump’s election interference case in Georgia. he move comes as part of a broader effort outlined in a court filing, which also accuses Willis of attempting to “incite racial bias” during a speech at an Atlanta church.

In the motion, attorneys Steven Sadow and Jennifer Little formally requested to adopt co-defendant Michael Roman’s motion. Roman is seeking Willis’s disqualification and the dismissal of criminal charges, citing an alleged improper relationship between Willis and Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor involved in the case.

Trump’s motion also seeks dismissal and disqualification based on Fani Willis’ speech, given two days after Roman’s motion was filed at the Big Bethel AME Church in Atlanta, where she defended Wade’s qualifications in response to the accusations. Willis suggested that the scrutiny faced by her and Wade was linked to their race, asserting that they were being unfairly targeted because they are Black.

Trump’s legal team contends that Willis’s remarks “constitute a glaring, flagrant, and calculated effort to inject racial bias into this case.” The attorneys argue that these comments violate Georgia’s rules for professional conduct, which prohibit prosecutors from making extrajudicial statements likely to increase public condemnation of the accused.

The criminal charges against Trump and Roman, among 17 co-defendants, pertain to alleged attempts to obstruct President Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory in Georgia. However, recent controversies surrounding Willis’s alleged improper relationship with Nathan Wade have cast a shadow over the case. Documents from Wade’s divorce proceedings suggest joint travels with Willis. Apart from Willis’s defense of Wade’s qualifications at the church, neither of them has officially responded to the accusations.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee has scheduled a hearing on Roman’s motion for February 15. He has directed Willis to provide a written response to the allegations by February 2.
